How To Use Gear Oil Correctly?
1. Select the use level according to the harshness of the working conditions of the gear.
The severity of the gear operating conditions is determined by the type of gear and its load and surface slip speed during operation. Ordinary gear transmissions can use ordinary vehicle gear oil, and hypoid gear transmission must use hypoid gear oil. Hypoid gear oil can also be used if the car is driving in the mountains or at full load and often under high load conditions, with harsh work and high oil temperature.
2. Select the viscosity grade according to the seasonal temperature.
The maximum temperature at which the gear's low temperature viscosity reaches 150,000 mPa.s determines the minimum temperature to which it applies. Therefore, the viscosity grade of the gear oil is generally selected according to the temperature conditions of different regions or seasons. When the temperature is high, select gear oil with high viscosity; otherwise, when the temperature is low, select gear oil with low viscosity. For example, in the Yangtze River Basin and other areas where the winter temperature is not lower than -10 °C, the No. 90 oil is available throughout the year. In the cold area where the winter temperature is not lower than -26 °C in the north of the Yangtze River, 80W/90 oil can be used throughout the year. Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and other cold temperatures in the winter below -26 °C, 75W oil in winter, 90 oil in summer. 85W/90 oil is available throughout the year in other regions.
Basis for gear oil selection
Gear type, gear speed, transmission ratio, ambient temperature and operating temperature, input power, load characteristics (constant load, impact, load size), drive form, lubrication method (splash, pressure), moisture pollution, oil leakage, etc.
