What Are The Requirements For Gear Oil?
To satisfy the lubricating requirements, gear oils also need to have special functions other than the common properties of other types of lubricating oil. Besides the ability of anti-foaming, anti-emulsification, anti-rust and anti-corrosion, gear oils should have suitable viscosity, excellent thermal stability, excellent anti-wear and high load resistance. The shear stability is also a crucial factor of gear oils.
The higher the viscosity, the greater load the gear can bear. On the other hand, the higher the viscosity, the lower the fluidity and the more the resistance. It would take a long time for a viscous oil to form oil protection membrane. Gear oil needs to reach a balanced viscosity, especially when an extreme pressure is formed. However, the extreme pressure anti-wear agent will be the main player in dealing with extreme pressure conditions, there is little need to choose gear oils only for its high viscosity, even though the gear oils have higher viscosity than other types of industrial oil.
