What Is Ethylene Propylene Copolymer?
Ethylene-propylene copolymer (OCP), ethylene, propylene copolymer, a lubricating oil viscosity index improver, good viscosity-increasing ability and shear stability, and low temperature performance, can be used for internal combustion engine oil, especially diesel engine oil.
If a low viscosity multistage oil is formulated, it is best to combine it with an ester type pour point depressant to improve its low temperature performance. The proportion of ethylene and propylene in the polymer should be appropriate, and the proportion directly affects the performance of the product. If the ethylene content is too high, the viscosity index is high, the polymer crystals are increased, the oil solubility of the product is deteriorated, and the gel is easily formed at a low temperature; if the propylene content is too high, the viscosity increasing ability is lowered and the oxidation stability is deteriorated. Generally, an ethylene-propylene copolymer having an ethylene content of 40 to 50% is basically an amorphous polymer.
